Once I have managed to survive a comic buying spree (whee!), and depending on the time of day, i will go to one of three places and drink/eat while pouring over comics, or sketch while flipping through comics:
*Neighborhood Restaurant... oh the breakfasty brunchy goodness.
*Block 11... definitely for the fine coffee/ tea palette, this is a great place to sit and enjoy while examining anything in wonderful detail... i especially like the superhero feel of sitting in the back in the bank vault, or hanging by the fireplace.
*The Independent... for those later-night comic crawls, i will then head on over to the Independent for a pint and a bit of a dark gotham feel while reading away. In union square their beer selection is pretty darned good (and i do a bunch of beer advocacy stuff, so my standards are high).
i have inevitably ended up foisting comics on those around me at any of these locations, and met little reluctance, which is awesome. I'm curious if folks have any other favorite post-comics haunts in the area.
That's a great idea!
I've thought about leaving some addictive graphic novels in Bloc 11 or other places. (Stuff like the first volume of "Strangers in Paradise" or "Y the Last Man")
If Tir Na Nog were still around, I could go there with comics and my dog and have a beer. I like the Independent, though. Maybe the newly revamped Toast/Precinct would also be good.
Friday and Saturday nights, if I stay open late, we often get in people going to PA's or Sally O'Brien's for a band. Sometimes we get the bands themselves. :)
Next time you grab some comics and are heading out for a beer, e-hawk, I'd love to join you!
